Plot Synopsis
A visit from Johnny's parents stirs up some trouble.
Plot Summary
Johnny sat in his quarters and watched a broadcast on Alliance Entertainment! News about Kayla Waif and her relationship status. He grew more depressed as the story went on and quickly turned it off when talk changed to that of the disappearance of the Valerian?. After a moment of despondant silence Johnny received a message from Lt. McGinnis about someone coming on board and he headed to the transporter room to meet them.
Johnny's parents, Dušan and Jelena had come to visit and it had filled Johnny with nervousness because of their critical nature. Once transported in, they immediately began to criticize Johnny. The crew reacted variably to the Dangerovićs' presence. Shauna approached Johnny that his father seemed to think he understood her engines better than she did, and Johnny warned her that violence might not be her best options because it might not be to an acceptable standard of violence to his father, and Shauna relented. Instead of being upset Gary was glad for the break when Johnny's mother took over his kitchen. Captain Smith related to Johnny that his parents were even more aggrivating than Dušan and Jelena and would likely drive even Alice to violence.
After annoying the rest of the crew the Dangerovićs sat down with their son in Twelve Forward and began to grill him about his love life. He had forgotten to mention to them that he had gotten a divorce from his robot bride and when questioned about who could be a more compatible match for a robot bride specifically designed for him, Johnny reveled in the fact that 46 and his ex-wife had just entered the room.
Johnny's father began to sling threats at 46, which the robot security officer ignored or barely noticed. Johnny told his father to stop antagonizing the security chief and that he had a girlfriend. Johnny grew frustrated when asked if it was "another" imaginary one, but their reactions to him saying he was dating a pop star left much to be desired. 46 attempted to interject into the conversation several times but only served to make things worse.
Johnny got away from the conversation with his parents and confided in Skip about the situation who put things into perspective for Johnny. Trying to take that advice to his parents Johnny quickly ended up stirring up more conflict than resolving it. In the end he said his goodbyes to his parents and they went back home and he struggled with the idea of them coming to visit again, with a little help from Lt. McGinnis and some talk of transporter accidents.
Back in his quarters Johnny talked with Kayla and asked her if he could introduce her to his parents but she insisted on their relationship remaining a secret, much to Johnny's consternation.
