Plot Synopsis
The crew encounters Captain Smith's evil twin Rob and hilarity ensues.
Plot Summary
When the crew begin to encounter a man who looks suspiciously like the Captain but wearing a black uniform they at first simply assume it is the Captain and compliment him on his new choice of attire. This individual turns out to be the Captain's Evil Twin. The Captain confronts, Rob, questioning him about his presence on the ship, to which Rob simply implies he showed up to cause the Captain problems as is his favorite pastime. Captain Smith indicates that his twin is a freelance villain.
Captain Smith attempts to have Rob put in the brig but this causes the first of many problems as 46 refuses to see the difference between the humans. Rob, of course, enjoys this immensely. Eventually the droid puts Rob in the brig and Marty confronts the Captain about his twin. Bob explains that Rob is actually a clone? created by the remulans in an attempt to see if they could do it, the evil was merely a side effect.
Bob confront his Evil Twin in the brig and Rob tells him that he could never kill him as it would be like suicide, Bob replies that after his time with the crew it might not be such a horrible option. Rob tells the Captain that he is like his mirror and Bob proceeds to mock this statement by raising an arm and expecting Rob to do the same. A predictable power outage cuts their discussion short and the Captain is forced to fight his twin who easily bests him and steals his uniform.
Rob, in disguise goes to the bridge and has Johnny set course for the Neutral Zone to meet up with the remulans for unknown reasons. Marty assumes it is to return Rob, to which Rob says it simply wanted to see the Ithian Nebula, but that they could take "Rob" to the remulans anyway.
Captain Smith wakes and confronts his impostor on the bridge, but as he is in Rob's uniform he appears to be the impostor. Marty attempts to help but only complicates matters further and annoys all involved. Belinda eventually arrives and suggests a possible solution that the good Captain is afraid he'll lose, but before the combat can begin the remulans show up and the Captain suggests they could run away, at which point Marty realizes who the real Captain is.
Rob attempts one more distracting trick, presenting a picture of dynamite as the real thing. The distraction works long enough for the remulans to extract Rob and leave, at which point Red comes to the bridge and promptly falls through the plot hole just created.
