The Great Exchange
Plot Synopsis
An exchange between old enemies leads to some tensions and a lot of progress.
Plot Summary
Commander Calmodulin came aboard the Muffin as part of an exchange with the Synari to see how members of the opposite side would integrate into a crew. During the exchange Marty had been sent over to the Synari ship and would be acting as their first officer while Calmodulin would do the same on the Muffin. Captain Smith expressed some worry about the situation but decided to go ahead with it anyway and learn what he could, but continued to make disparaging remarks about his first officer.
As a test of his abilities Bob left Calmodulin alone to command the bridge and had instructed his officers to be at their most annoying, which they had no trouble complying with. With Captain Smith, Shauna, and Belinda watching from the Battle Bridge, Commander Calmodulin was able to defuse a situation with Johnny and Skip being at their most annoying. He quickly was presented with another problem when one of his own people's ships appeared with their weapons charged and their communications silent.
The Captain refused to come to the bridge, wanting to test Calmodulin's reactions and he held his ground until the last second when Marty hailed them insisting they not shoot. Calmodulin expressed that he was impressed Marty had worked out the chain of command on a synari ship and Marty replied that he was happy Calmodulin had not fired first.
Captain Smith and Commander Calmodulin parted on good terms but Calmodulin suggested future endeavors not include Marty and Bob agreed. Debriefing Marty, it was revealed that Marty never started the war, they were simply looking for an excuse to start one, and that Bob knew this the entire time and just kept up the ruse to bug Marty.
