I Saw the Sine
Plot Synopsis
A visit to a Math Planet results in a misunderstanding that could cost Marty his freedom.
Plot Summary
When the crew visited Torus it was not long before Marty was arrested for crimes against Math. Marty tried to convince Captain Smith to break him out but the Captain refused on the grounds that he didn't want Marty starting another war, so they would have to go through with the trial and the accusations of Marty using Illegal Numbers. They were soon informed that they would not be able to hire a normal lawyer and that it would have to be a robotic lawyer. Captain Smith quickly decided (not being glut with choices) to use 46 in that capacity. Though 46 protested he quickly relented and the trial began.
Marty was sworn in before |Jim| the "god" of Torus and proceedings moved ahead quickly. Evidence of Marty's use of hyperbole quickly destroys the defense 46 had constructed and they were forced to argue semantics in front of the Mathgistrate. The Mathgistrate requested a plea and Marty chose first "innocent" then "not guilty" before being informed that "guilty" and "very guilty" were really his only options. Instead of responding with a well reasoned argument 46 chose to make jokes which succeeded only in insulting the Mathgistrate. Marty then attempted to use logic, which went as well as it usually did with him.
After all of that, Marty was charged for his crimes and forced to pay a fine which amounted to around two dollars and 50 cents, at which point Bob threw his hands up of the whole mess and walked out. Marty was forced to overpay as the judge could not break a three dollar bill and 46 quickly got everyone else out before Marty said something else dumb.
