Orkavian
Orkavians are a reptilian humanoid species with a strong under bite and a penchant for violence.
Biology and Appearance
Orkavians are a green skinned semi reptilian species who thrive in the jungles of Orkanon. They have large protruding bottom teeth and a pronounced under bite. Orkavians are extremely durable, able to adapt and survive most damage, they do not necessarily completely heal, but they are able to survive with heavy blood loss and loss of limbs. They are extremely resilient when it comes to damage, however their bodies have a hard time accepting prosthetics and cybernetic grafts, their bodies will only accept so much in the way of augmentation before complete rejection of foreign technology. Some rudimentary augmentations at low tech levels can work in a limited fashion
Those who have studied Orkavian physiology have noted that they maintain high levels of adrenaline, as compared to most other humanoid species, at all times and that this may be what allows them to survive intense pain and damage. They also have an excess of several hormones unseen in other humanoids, these hormones have been linked to aggression and increased strength and stamina.
The musculature of the Orkavian heart is also significantly more powerful than other humanoids and allows blood to pump at a much higher rate, allowing oxygen to reach the brain and muscles faster. Their brains, however, are not uniquely equipped to deal with the extra oxygen and thus there does not appear to be an increase of higher brain functions with this rapid oxygen delivery. Only the more primitive regions of their brains appear to be heavily influenced by this, again lending them to better fight or flight responses and faster reflexes in situations of heightened tension, such as combat.
Culture and Society
Orkavian culture is based around war, those few who have left the planet show that their interest in war and combat extends. A few have found peaceful existences, but very few and often not for long. Though they are a violent species they normally respect honor in combat and tend to seek out worthy opponents, leaving those they consider weak to be killed by their own devices. They see combat as a glorious thing and to kill a weak and helpless opponent is no victory at all, it is merely a mercy killing.
Orkavian's tend to take trophy's of those they have beaten in combat and decorate themselves with those trophies as they are of great symbolic and religious value to them. It is also customary to eat the heart (or hearts, or equivalent organ) of one's opponents to gain strength and favor of their deity Garmok.
History
All that can be said of Orkvanian history is summed up in the concept of war. Since they have evolved into a thinking speices all of Orkavian society and intentions have been focused on war with each other, with other species and with other races among the stars. Their wars are rarely built on heavy strategy and subsist mostly of blind attacks which in some encounters has lead to massive destruction on their part. After encountering several powerful races in the galaxy most of Orkavian warfare has been relegated to their own planet and those that leave tend to respect the power and authority of those who could crush them without a second thought.
