Surgical Tools

Surgical Tools were the tools used in surgery. They include things like scalpels, saws, hammers, and clamps.

History

The history of surgical tools was a horrible and bloody one, over the years the instruments used to cut people open and fiddle with their insides changed, improved, and above all became more sterile, but they were often still frightening in appearance and in their use.

Construction

Surgical tools varied greatly in their appearance and function, but most were made of stainless steel and sterilized before use.

Behind the Scenes

When I initially wrote this page I put "hammer" in as a joke. During a hospital rotation for pharmacy school, however, I was able to sit in on a knee replacement surgery. Hammers are indeed present in the operating room in some instances.
