Scanner
Scanners were small hand-held devices that allowed general scans of various basic properties.
History
Scanners were the gradual evolution of individual pieces of equipment capable of specific types of scans. Eventually scanners capable of biological, geological, and technological scans were compiled into a single device.
Construction
Scanners were packed tightly with circuitry and scanning equipment that had been miniaturized to the point of being a hand-held device. They were not perfect, not incredibly sensitive, but very versatile and mobile.
