History
Cloaking devices were built to allow ships to hide. The Alliance was one of the last groups in the galaxy to use a cloaking devices and even then only a few special cases.
Construction
Cloaking devices vary wildly between different groups who have designed them, but most work around the concept of bending light and sensor signals.
