Cat

Cats are a feline species that evolved on the mid rim planet Earth alongside humans, but for generations hid their advanced intelligence from humans seeing their xenophobic and violent tendencies and worrying that if they knew they had competition they might turn on the cat race and destroy them. When humanity nearly destroyed itself cats decided to end their silence.

Biology and Appearance

Cats are feline quadrupeds with brains far smaller than many humanoids, however the organization of their brains was far more complex than human scientists originally discerned. Cats posses a weak psychic ability which allowed them to hide among humanity even though many were subjected to biological testing and examination, those cats who died for human science made willing sacrifices to protect the rest of the species by "playing dumb."
Cats are devote carnivores.

Culture

For generations cats maintained a secret culture unknown to the humans around them, they communicated with each other over great distances and fought a silent and mostly useless war with a subsentient canine species with which they competed for control of human lives. Ultimately it served cat purposes to be treated as revered pets and given great comfort, though some became feral in the hands of "crazy cat ladies."
Unlike most other sentient species cats lack opposable thumbs but they have often use their weak psychic abilities to manipulate less intelligent members of many species into doing things for them.

History

Cats evolved on Earth alongside humans who assumed that they were non sentient and adopted them as pets. Early in the 22nd century Cats revealed to humanity that they were intelligent, had been communicating with each other for centuries and had been watching the progress of humanity in hopes of one day working together to reach the stars. They had feared humanity for many generations due to their xenophobia and violent ways, fearing that if they revealed themselves humans might destroy them, but when humans fell into World War III and nearly destroyed the cats along with themselves the cats decided it was time to come forward and only through cooperation were the two races able to reach the stars.
