I’ve been thinking this whole time that whatever it is that Pony-Tail Johnny must act on fails to act properly. I’m figuring that he remembers that he must act at the right time, but that he does the wrong thing and that is why Oldest Johnny is trying so hard to fix what went wrong.
It may even be that Oldest Johnny actions here in trying to ‘fix’ things is what causes ‘it’ to go wrong.
I wonder if this is the issue telepaths have had with Johnny? I mean character wise he is pretty much just a shallow goof. But lots of temporal shenanigans and subliminal codes might mess with a telepath way more than personality alone.
Of course since we have young Johnny here I wonder if this might also be why he has had issues growing up as his young self keeps being reinforced.
This is probably the story-arc where Young-Johnny meets Rufus and has either and excellent adventure or a bogus journey leaving Old-Johnny to face the music.

Hmm, interesting idea. All of this time-traveling has had a negative effect on his maturity development.
