To be fair. Believing that the crew of the Muffin, the freaking Muffin, could beat you without it being some sort of fluke would be horribly damaging to any ego. Sure, Belinda and Bob wouldn’t be too bad. But Marty? Johnny? Skip? Robin? That’s gotta sting.
I realise they’re all quirky characters and usually played for laughs…but those guys are also some of the best in their respective fields. Marty managed to fool Creepius for a substantial amount of time and has taken down some seriously heavy hitters. Johnny is a lech but also got hand picked to fly an experimental ship because he’s just that damn good of a pilot. Skip might have had his vocal tic but Belinda has been training him herself and even before that he was tech savvy enough to track down Natalie’s messages while she was incognito on the ship. Your narcissism shouldn’t take too much of a hit by being beaten by the best, and to try and write off people who have already bested your entire cabal on several occasions is just foolish
