One thing I wondered about regarding Jedi Masters. In normal usage, master denotes male while mistress denotes female. Do the Jedi not follow this convention? I don’t recall any female members of the council being addressed by title in any of the movies.
Do you mean to tell me your brain totally forgot Luke Skywalker addressed Yoda as “master” Yoda”? That, technically, is a title, and one that Yoda seemed okay with! 😀
SaylorA said, he didn’t remember any FEMALE Jedi council member being addressed by title in the movies.
Looking at the Star Wars Wiki, it seems that female Jedi who have attained the highest rank are called “master” as well. Anyway, the Star Wars universe has intelligent species with only one, or more than two genders. I guess they just settled on one word for simplicity.
Actually, I’ve been thinking about it and it makes sense. Padawan and Jedi Knight are gender neutral, so it seems logical that the Jedi would use Master in the same way.
Also, C3-P0 totally addressed Leia as “Mistress Leia”, so it’s quite likely if there were any female Jedi with such a title that they would’ve been addressed in a similar manner. 😀
some fringe elements do not like it, but the fact is male pronouns and titles are proper in English for generic usage. not every word has to change to match genders really….
and it is possible that the *rank* itself is called master rank and the title master is not referring to the individual directly. just consider when is the last time you ever saw a doctoress or such for a female doctor? you don’t because the title doctor is referring to the degree level they have.

Sorry for assuming your gender, SaylorA, by the way, should have written: “SaylorA said, they didn’t…”
No problem. I’m a guy. 🙂
That’s why Lt. Asay Lor is a guy.

well 3PO was a bit different in how he addressed people. I would imagine everyone would still refer to Rey as Jedi Master Rey
