I would say that Marty has spent most of his career on the assorted Muffins in a generally southerly state, so this shouldn’t really be so much surprising as faintly annoying.
I reckon right when Marty wants to beam themselves up, there’s going to be interference or malfunction in the transporter that’s trying to beam him up! 😀
I think that means that both will malfunction now, in some weird paradoxical way where the only way to fix either one is with the other, so both systems will now have to be spliced together in some way, and as a result, at least one of the characters from the holodeck will get a zany freedom to run through the halls of the ship…
Marty is not a complete idiot, and he has learned a lot about self-preservation over the years.

There’s always malfunctions with the transporter or the holodeck. Flip a coin any moment to see which.
How bad would it be if a real coin in a holodeck gets flipped, goes up, but never comes down or disappears into thin air? 😀

That’s not *really* how that happened …. right?
