I’ve been known to go on tirades about the whole organic movement, mostly because the people I’ve known who’ve been really into buying all things organic never really considered that they’re taking someone’s word for the fact that things are organic. If you didn’t grow it yourself, you can’t be 100% sure. I’m all for eating organic, but the extra cost just isn’t worth it enough for me when what I’m buying may not be as organic as advertised.
Actually, you’re taking the word of the United States Department of Agriculture (or regional equivalent) that food certified organic is, indeed, organic. Not that I buy organic, but that’s because it’s a bloody stupid idea, not because of any suspicion that the farmers might actually have used some of the fertilisers or pesticides that we’ve developed to improve farming over the past few centuries.
